National Scholarship Portal: National Scholarship Portal (NSP) is a digital scholarship program which offers multiple scholarships proposed by the central government, state governments and other government firms like UGC (University Grants Commission), etc. This Portal entertains about 50 scholarships worth hundreds of crores among the scholarship seekers listed on the platform. According to administrators, NSP has helped the government achieve and distribute scholarships of about Rs.2000/- crores and more. The program claims that they receive 125 Lac applications every year, out of which 105 lakhs applications are the verified one.

What is The Objective of National Scholarship Portal?
The Mission Mode Project (MMP) of National Scholarships Portal under the National e-Governance Plan strives at presenting common electronic portal for implementing many Scholarships projects originated by Union Government, State Government and Union Territories across the country. The main objectives of NSP are;

How To Apply for National Scholarship Portal?
To apply for a scholarship follow the below steps
- Students applying for a scholarship for the first time (Fresh Students) need to “Register” on the portal as a fresh applicant by providing accurate and authenticated information as printed on their documents in the “Student Registration Form”.
- The registration form is required to be filled by parents/guardian of students who are below the age of 18 years on the date of registration.
- Before initiating the registration process, students /Parents/guardian are advised to keep the following documents handy
- Educational documents of the student.
- Student’s Bank account number and IFSC code of the bank branch
Note: For the pre-matric scholarship scheme, where students do not have their own bank account, parents can provide their own account details. However, parents account number can only be used against scholarship applications for a maximum of two children. - Aadhaar number of the Student
- If Aadhaar is not available, then Bonafide student certificate from Institute / School and
- Aadhaar Enrolment ID or Scanned copy of Bank passbook
- If Institute/School is different from the domicile state of the applicant, then Bonafide student certificate from Institute / School.
- Details to be filled in the application form are
- Date of Birth (DOB)
- State of Domicile
- Scholarship Category
- Name of Student
- Mobile Number
- Email Id
- Bank account details
- Identification Details
- After submitting the application, the default login id and password to log into the NSP portal will be sent to the provided mobile number. In case the password is not received, the option for forgot a password at login page shall be used.
- Students are advised to provide “Annual Family Income” as per the Income Certificate issued by a competent authority in their scholarship application.
In the case of Existing User
- Apply for scholarship renewal with your ‘Application Id’ and Date of Birth which you registered previous year.
- A student can also use ‘Forgot Application ID’ to retrieve their ID.
- Only those students would be able to renew who had actually received the scholarships payments during the previous year from NSP.
National Scholarship Portal – Scholarship registration tracking
Once you are done with the complete application, the NSP also offers the provision for tracking your current application status through ‘Check Your Status’ tab. Whether your application has been finally submitted or not will be visible under this section.
National Scholarship Portal – Apply through its Mobile App
Considering the advent of mobile technology, the Government of India has launched its ‘National Scholarship Portal Mobile App’ in the year 2018 to make scholarship application easier and more convenient for the students. The students can download and install the mobile app through the Google Play Store on their respective mobile devices. Also, there is an availability of NSP mobile app in the ‘UMANG’ app launched by the government earlier. So, if you already have the UMANG app installed on your mobile devices, you can start applying for the scholarships too by registering at NSP mobile app. The app covers end to end services of the National Scholarship Portal. You can not only get access to NSP scholarships but also apply for them in just a few simple steps.
How can Students Login to the National Scholarship Portal?
To be able to take advantage of the above-mentioned Government scholarships, candidates have to register themselves on the Student Login portal, fill out the common application form, and provide their personal and academic details. After filling all the necessary details and completing the application form, you will be able to see a list of all the scholarships that you are eligible to apply.

Step 1: Log into the National Scholarship Portal (NSP)
- Firstly, navigate to the official website of NSP.
- On the home page, find the ‘Student Login’ Tab and click on it.
Step 2: Register Yourself
- You need to register yourself with the National Scholarship Portal before you can apply for a scholarship.
- Provide all the details in the necessary fields in this section.
Temporary Registration Number
- After entering all details and submitting the information, you will be provided with a 20- digit Temporary Registration Number.
- The Temporary Registration Number is also sent to the applicant’s registered mobile number for future reference.
- You must save your Temporary Registration Number till the time you have completed your application process and have been provided with a Permanent Registration Number.
Step 3: Logging into the National Scholarship Portal
- After receiving your Temporary Registration Number, you can log into the NSP Portal using the Temporary Registration Number and your Date of Birth.
Step 4: Filling the National Scholarship Portal Application Form
- After successfully completing the registration process, and logging into the Portal using your temporary registration number and Date of Birth, you can start filling out your personal as well as academic details.
- Provide accurate personal information and your bank account details.
- Ensure that the above details are correct as the scholarship amount will be transferred using the personal and bank account information.
- In the academic section, fill in your present as well as previous academic details.
- You will be able to see the various scholarships that you are entitled to apply based on your qualification and category details i.e. SC/ST/minority/Disabled, etc.
Step 5: Uploading the Documents
- You must know that you can apply for multiple scholarships.
- Once you apply for a particular scholarship, you will be shown a list of the documents which are to be uploaded for the scholarship selected by you.
Step 6: Contact Details
- After uploading the necessary documents, you will be asked to provide your contact details to complete the application process.

Tracking the NSP Application Status
Once you’ve successfully submitted the NSP online application form, you must take a printout of the application form by clicking on the ‘Print Your Application’ tab. You can check the status of your scholarship application by clicking on the ‘Check Your Status’ tab on the NSP Portal.

Applying procedures for Scholarship Schemes for both Fresh and Renewal are given below:
- New Registration: Student has to Click on the option “Student Login”, on the home page of National Scholarships Portal. Fill up the application as per the instructions are given by the system then click on the Save button. After saving, the student will get a “Temporary ID”. The system will instruct the applicant to submit his/her Temporary ID and date of birth to fill subsequent details. Once registration is complete on click of submit button, a Permanent Registration ID is generated which can be used for Renewal and tracking the status of the application.
- Renewal: Renewal Students have to apply with their Application Id and Date of Birth which they registered in the previous year. Student can also use Forgot Application ID to retrieve their ID. Only those students would be able to Renew who had actually got the scholarships payments last year from NSP 1.0.

How to check the status of my application?
Answer:
Student can check the status of Online Application by submitting his/her Permanent id and Date Of Birth and open the link “Check your Status”.
Question 5.
Can the information saved in the application form be edited and till what time?
Answer: All the information in the application form can be edited till the closure of the application form. Post the final submission, your application will be forwarded to the next level, after which the information cannot be edited.
Question 6.
What should I do if I my Institute’s name is not there in the drop-down menu?
Answer: You should immediately approach the Institute and contact the nodal officer of the state where the Institute is located. You may also approach the nodal officer of the state directly through e-mail under intimation to the ministry. If your Institute is listed as an eligible Institute then the concerned State Government will add it to the database and then you will be able to apply.
Question 7.
What are the fields in the NSP Application Form that can’t be edited at all?
Answer: Your Aadhar Number and the Enrollment Id are not editable at any stage. Hence, you should exercise extra care while filling out these fields.
Question 8.
What is the solution if some schemes are not showing in the drop-down menu?
Answer: If the scheme does not fit into the guidelines according to the inputs provided by students in the application form then these scholarships cannot be provided.
Question 9.
What if I detect mistakes in the application form after the application has been forwarded to the next level?
Answer: You should immediately inform the Institute/District/Region/State about the mistakes detected by you. The software provides the facility at the level of the Institute and the State to edit & correct limited information.
