The Lowdown On Summer Camps

School holidays, especially the summer holidays, serves as a period of transition between one academic year to another. It enables children and teachers to have some downtime after a rigorous schedule of work for the year. The period of six to eight weeks, are therefore a period of relaxation and recreation for both.

However, free time in the modern world, comes with the expectation of optimization – how to ‘occupy’ the children in meaningful tasks to give them a head start or simply get them interested in something, so that they don’t waste their time. Consequently, many summer camps have mushroomed and gained popularity with many families endorsing it.

Why Summer Camps
Summer camps are an opportunity for outbound activities that should not be missed, as these adventure camps are planned keeping the weather in mind which may not be possible during school days. Additionally, during the school calendar, the duration of these opportunities cannot be planned because different schools follow different holiday schedules.

For a variety of reasons, summer camps have become the mainstay for families who cannot travel on account of work commitments and who like the option of their children engaged in activities outside the gadget world.

A Personal Choice
Summer camps are a personal choice. It must be noted that what works for one family, may not work for another. However, it is imperative for each family to consider the child’s needs before making a decision to send the child for it. Replacing family time with adventure may not be ideal. Do remember, children also need unstructured, downtime to unwind. If your child is not ready for such decisions, forcing him/her may not yield results and therefore conversations and discussions are important to avoid anxiety associated with these camps.

If your intention is to add a dimension to your child’s personality by exposing him/her to situations and enabling them to be open minded, selecting a summer camp may be a good idea. Nevertheless, the nature, duration and location needs to be thoroughly authenticated before a final decision is made.
