Kisan Diwas 2019: India Celebrate National Farmers Day as Honour to Former PM Chowdhary Charan Singh

National Farmers Day/Kisan Diwas 2019 is celebrated across India on 23rd December as an honour to the 5th PM of India, Chaudhary Charan Singh.

In the year 2001, the Indian Government took a decision to celebrate Chowdhary Charan Singh’s birth anniversary as Kisan Diwas every year on December 23 due to his hard work done for farmers.

While his tenure as the Prime Minister of India from 28th July 1979 to 14th January 1980, he started a lot of policies to strengthen the lives and conditions of farmers in the country. To introduce bills for farmers’ reforms, Chowdhary Charan Singh Ji played as a lead in the agricultural sector of the country.

Chaudhary Charan Singh died on 29th May 1987 and his memorial is established in New Delhi and known as Kisan Ghat.

On this National Farmers Day/Kisan Diwas 2019, the Government organizes a number of events like workshops, seminars on agriculture, etc to support farmers and honour their contributions to the country.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tributes to Chaudhary Charan Singh on his birth anniversary on Monday, December 23. “Remembering Chaudhary Charan Singh Ji on his Jayanti. Unwavering when it came to safeguarding the rights of hardworking farmers, Charan Singh Ji also worked tirelessly for the empowerment of the marginalized. He was at the forefront of strengthening India’s democratic fabric,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted.
