In a recent turn of events, Eric Schmidt has decided to step down from the post of Executive Chairman at a multi-national company, Alphabet Inc. According to a report by PC Magazine, Schmidt is going to serve as the technical advisor for the company from now onward. He released a statement on Thursday, 22nd December 2017 stating that the structure that Alphabet is based is “working well.”
He is also happy to announce that Google and Other Bets are thriving towards the positive direction. Schmidt in the recent years has been spending a lot of his time on science and technology issues along with philanthropy. He apparently plans on expanding the work within the purview of Alphabet Inc. while remaining on the company’s board.
“After ten years as CEO and seven as Executive Chairman, I can’t wait to dive into the latest in science, technology, and philanthropy. I look forward to working with Larry and Sergey on our future here at Alphabet,” Schmidt tweeted through his official Twitter account. To recall, Schmidt became a part of Alphabet Inc. back in 2001. The company, at that time, was identified by the name, ‘Google.’ It took him a while, but he was successful at becoming the CEO and carried the bate forward for almost a decade.
During his tenure as the CEO of Google/Alphabet, the search engine provider was able to become the world’s leading internet giant. Google’s founder, Larry Page succeeded Schmidt as the company’s CEO later. Meanwhile, Schmidt took over the position as the Executive Chairman of the company. During his tenure as the Executive Chairman, Schmidt paid attention to external affairs – including partnerships, businesses, and Google’s government outreach.
In the more recent times, Schmidt has been talking about the importance of the Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology. He emphasizes the importance of a proper development of the technology.
