International Volunteer Day: 5 December<\/h3>\n

- The\u00a0International Volunteer Day (IVD)<\/strong>\u00a0is observed across the world on\u00a05 December<\/strong>\u00a0every year. This year theme is\u00a0\u201d Volunteer for an inclusive future\u201d.<\/strong><\/li>\n
- This year\u2019s theme highlighting Sustainable Development Goal 10 (SDG 10) and the pursuit of equality including inclusion through volunteerism.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
World Soil Day: 5 December<\/h3>\n

- World Soil Day<\/strong>\u00a0is celebrated annually on the\u00a05th of December<\/strong>\u00a0at the\u00a0Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO)<\/strong>\u00a0headquarters in\u00a0Rome, Italy.<\/strong><\/li>\n
- This year, by addressing the increasing challenges of soil management, the FAO campaign\u00a0\u201cStop soil erosion, Save our future\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0aims to raise awareness of the importance of sustaining healthy ecosystems and human well-being.<\/li>\n
- By encouraging people around the world to engage in proactively improving soil health, the campaign also aims to raise the profile of healthy soil.<\/li>\n
- The\u00a0International Union of Soil Sciences (IUSS),<\/strong>\u00a0in 2002, adopted a resolution proposing the 5th of December as World Soil Day to celebrate the importance of soil as a critical component of the natural system and as a vital contributor to human well-being.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
Indian Navy Day: 4 December<\/strong><\/h3>\n

- Navy Day<\/strong>\u00a0is being celebrated in India on\u00a04th December.<\/strong><\/li>\n
- The day is celebrated in honour of the maritime force\u2019s role during the war with\u00a0Pakistan in 1971<\/strong>\u00a0when Indian warships attacked Karachi port and successfully hurt Pakistani operations in the western coast.<\/li>\n
- The Day is also celebrated to highlight the role the Navy plays in securing the country\u2019s marine borders during peacetime and carrying out humanitarian missions.<\/li>\n
- As per the recent Data, since 2008, 70 Indian naval warships have been deployed, which safely escorted over 3440 ships with over 25,000 mariners on board.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

UP govt announces 25% subsidy & full stamp duty waiver for defence industry<\/strong><\/h3>\n

- Uttar Pradesh<\/strong>\u00a0government has decided to provide\u00a025 per cent subsidy<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0100 per cent stamp duty<\/strong>\u00a0waiver for setting up the\u00a0defence industry<\/strong>\u00a0in the state.<\/li>\n
- The state government will also provide all facilities including power, road and fencing of land to the companies that will set up defence industries.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

- Exercise HAND-IN-HAND 2019<\/strong>\u00a0is to be conducted at\u00a0Umroi, Meghalaya<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
- The\u00a08th India-China<\/strong>\u00a0joint training is held under the\u00a0United Nations<\/strong>\u00a0mandate.<\/li>\n
- The exercise will be held from\u00a07-20 December 2019.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
Theme:<\/strong><\/p>\n
\n
- The aim of the Exercise HAND-IN-HAND 2019 is to practice joint planning and conduct of counter-terrorist operations in semi-urban terrain.<\/li>\n
- The theme of the 14-day long training exercise is Counter-terrorism.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
Participants:<\/strong><\/p>\n

- From the Chinese side, the\u00a0Tibet Military command comprises 130<\/strong>\u00a0personal who will be participating in the event.<\/li>\n
- From the Indian Contingent, more than\u00a0100 personnel<\/strong>\u00a0will participate in the training exercise<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
\nLaw Ministry launched a drive on fundamental duties<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n
- The\u00a0Department of Justice (DOJ)<\/strong>\u00a0has launched a programme to create awareness of their fundamental duties among the citizens.<\/li>\n
- The year-long drive is a part of the celebrations of the\u00a070th anniversary of Constitution Day\u00a0<\/strong>that was celebrated on\u00a026 November.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
Drive on fundamental duties:<\/strong><\/p>\n
\n
- The department will conduct activities such as online quizzes, essay competitions, and preamble pledge signing contest. It will be organized to educate them about their constitutional responsibilities.<\/li>\n
- The Ministry has outlined which duties should be handled by each ministry and asked them to prepare a calendar of activities.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
Fundamental Duties:<\/strong><\/p>\n
\n
- The Fundamental Duties were incorporated in Part IV-A of the Constitution by the 42nd amendment.<\/li>\n
- Article 51-A<\/strong>\u00a0describes\u00a011 Fundamental Duties<\/strong>. In\u00a02002<\/strong>, one more duty was added by the\u00a086th amendment<\/strong>. It was borrowed from\u00a0USSR<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
The Fundamental Duties are:<\/strong><\/p>\n

- Abide by the Indian Constitution and respect the national flag and National Anthem<\/li>\n
- Follow ideals of the freedom struggle<\/li>\n
- Protect sovereignty & integrity of India<\/li>\n
- Defend the country and render national services when called upon<\/li>\n
- Sprit of common brotherhood<\/li>\n
- Preserve composite culture<\/li>\n
- Preserve natural environment<\/li>\n
- Develop scientific temper<\/li>\n
- Safeguard the public property<\/li>\n
- Strive for excellence<\/li>\n
- Duty of all parents or guardians to send their children in the age group of 6-14 years to school<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
ECI to implement \u201cPolitical Parties Registration Tracking Management System\u201d (PPRTMS)<\/strong><\/h3>\n
\n
- The\u00a0Election Commission of India (ECI)<\/strong>\u00a0has launched the\u00a0Political Parties Registration Tracking Management System (PPRTMS).<\/strong><\/li>\n
- ECI has reviewed the system and process of registration of political parties. The new guidelines will be effective from\u00a01 January 2020.<\/strong><\/li>\n
- The guidelines are available on the ECI’s website https:\/\/eci.gov.in. PPRTMS will be implemented through an online portal.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
Features of PPRTMS:<\/strong><\/p>\n
\n
- The portal will track the status of application by applicants. The applicant who applies for the party registration from 1 January 2020 onwards will be able to track the progress of the application.<\/li>\n
- The candidate will get status update through SMS and email.<\/li>\n
- The applicant must provide the contact mobile number and email address of either the party or the applicant in his application if he\/she wishes to track the progress of the application<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

Pritivirajsing Roopun elected as new President of Mauritius by parliament<\/strong><\/h3>\n

- The National Assembly of Republic of\u00a0Mauritius<\/strong>\u00a0has unanimously elected\u00a0Prithvirajsing Roopun,<\/strong>\u00a0as new\u00a0President<\/strong>\u00a0of the island nation, a largely ceremonial post.<\/li>\n
- He was former arts and culture minister of the country. In Mauritius, Prime Minister is head of government and holds most political power while the president is head of state but has no executive role and is considered guardian of the constitution.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

Putin and Xi launched Russia-China gas pipeline<\/strong><\/h3>\n

- Russian President Vladimir Putin<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Chinese President Xi Jinping\u00a0<\/strong>launched the\u00a0Siberia pipeline project.<\/strong><\/li>\n
- The pipeline will transport natural gas from\u00a0Siberia to northeast China<\/strong>. The move aims to boost the economic and political ties between\u00a0Russia<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0China<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
Siberia pipeline:<\/strong><\/p>\n
\n
- The pipeline project shows Russia’s attempts in helping China from the financial sanctions imposed by the\u00a0US over China’s 2014<\/strong>\u00a0annexation of Ukraine’s Crimea.<\/li>\n
- It is a\u00a03,000-km<\/strong>-long Power of Siberia pipeline.<\/li>\n
- It will transport gas from the\u00a0Chayandinskoye<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Kovytka<\/strong>\u00a0fields in\u00a0eastern Siberia<\/strong><\/li>\n
- The project will generate\u00a0$400 billion<\/strong>\u00a0for Russian state coffers.<\/li>\n
- The project began in\u00a0October 2012<\/strong>\u00a0and it was commissioned\u00a0on 2 December 2019.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
Russia’s other plans:<\/strong><\/p>\n
\n
- Russia<\/strong>\u00a0is planning to launch two other major energy projects.<\/li>\n
- One project, the\u00a0Nord Stream 2 undersea Baltic gas pipeline<\/strong>\u00a0to Germany\u00a0<\/strong>and the other,\u00a0TurkStream pipeline<\/strong>\u00a0to\u00a0Turkey<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0southern Europe<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

- The\u00a0Asian Development Bank (ADB)<\/strong>\u00a0board has unanimously elected Masatsugu Asakawa<\/strong>\u00a0as its new president.<\/li>\n
- He is currently a special advisor to Japan\u2019s Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, will assume office as ADB\u2019s 10th President on January 17, 2020.<\/li>\n
- He will succeed Takehiko Nakao, who will leave office on January 16, 2020.<\/li>\n
- He served as a Visiting Professor at the University of Tokyo from 2012 to 2015 and at Saitama University from 2006 to 2009.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

Sundar Pichai promoted as Alphabet Inc. CEO<\/strong><\/h3>\n

- Sundar Pichai<\/strong>\u00a0promoted as\u00a0Alphabet Inc. CEO<\/strong>\u00a0after Google co-founders\u00a0Larry Page<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Sergey Brin<\/strong>\u00a0have announced that they are stepping down from the leadership role of the parent company Alphabet.<\/li>\n
- Google CEO Indian-American Sundar Pichai will be assuming the role of Alphabet Inc CEO, making him one of the most powerful corporate leaders of the world.<\/li>\n
- Alphabet and Google no longer need two CEOs and a President and Sundar Pichai will be the CEO of both Google and Alphabet.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

ADB provides $206m loan to finance Tamil Nadu Urban Investment Programme<\/strong><\/h3>\n

- The\u00a0Asian Development Bank (ADB)<\/strong>\u00a0has agreed to advance a loan of\u00a0US $206 million<\/strong>\u00a0to develop water supply and sewerage infrastructure in Tiruchi and other cities in Tamil Nadu.<\/li>\n
- It will also strengthen the capacities of\u00a0Urban Local Bodies (ULBs)<\/strong>\u00a0for improved service delivery.<\/li>\n
- The project initiatives are also expected to help the state develop the requisite ecosystem for economic growth.<\/li>\n
- The project will target cities namely\u00a0Ambur, Tiruchirappalli, Tiruppur, and Vellore<\/strong>\u00a0for developing sewage collection and treatment and drainage systems.<\/li>\n
- Improvement to water supply systems would be targeted in the cities of\u00a0Madurai and Tiruppur.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

India successfully test-fires indigenously developed nuke-capable Prithvi-II missile<\/strong><\/h3>\n

- India<\/strong>\u00a0successfully test-fired its indigenously developed surface-to-surface nuclear-capable\u00a0Prithvi-II missile<\/strong>\u00a0off Odisha coast.<\/li>\n
- The Strategic Forces Command of the Indian Army conducted the user trial of the\u00a0350 km<\/strong>\u00a0range missile from a mobile launcher from launch complex-3 of the Integrated Test Range at Chandipur.<\/li>\n
- The missile weighs about\u00a04,600 kg,<\/strong>\u00a0is capable of carrying\u00a0500 to 1000 kilograms<\/strong>\u00a0of warheads and is thrust by liquid propulsion twin engines.<\/li>\n
- The 9 meters tall, single-stage liquid-fueled Prithvi-II is the first missile to have been developed by the DRDO under the Integrated Guided Missile Development Programme.<\/li>\n
- This missile is developed under the joint collaboration of Defence Research and Development Organization and Bharat Dynamics Limited, the missile was first test-fired on 27 January 1996.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
