\nAustralian cricketer Glenn Maxwell on Thursday went on a \u201cshort\u201d break from cricket due to mental health issues and will be replaced by D\u2019Arcy Short in the national Twenty20 squad.<\/p>\n

According to Cricket Australia, Maxwell told the team\u2019s support staff that he was struggling with his mental health and the Board, along with his state side Victoria, are backing him in this period.<\/p>\n

\u201cGlenn Maxwell has been experiencing some difficulties with regards to his mental health. As a result, he will spend a short time away from the game,\u201d team psychologist Dr Michael Lloyd was quoted as saying by Cricket Australia on its website \u2018cricket.com.au\u2019.\u201cGlenn was proactive in identifying these issues and engaging with support staff,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Maxwell\u2019s decision comes days after he hammered a 28-ball 62 in Australia\u2019s massive 134-run win in the opening Twenty20 against Sri Lanka. He did not get to bat in the second match which the hosts won by nine wickets to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.<\/p>\n

The 31-year old, who also bowls off-spin, has played 110 ODIs, 61 T20s and seven Tests for Australia. He has managed just one century each in Tests and ODIs but has three hundreds in T20Is.<\/p>\n

CA\u2019s Executive General Manager of National Teams Ben Oliver said, \u201cThe well-being of our players and staff is paramount. Glenn has our full support. Cricket Australia will work collaboratively with Cricket Victoria\u2019s support staff to ensure Glenn\u2019s well-being and his reintegration into the game.\u201d<\/p>\n

Oliver further requested that Maxwell, his family and friends\u2019 privacy should be respected.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s a special player and an important part of the Australian cricket family. We hope to see him back in the team during the summer. It\u2019s important we look after Glenn and all our players,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Glenn Maxwell Early Career<\/h2>\n

On 25th August, 2012, Maxwell made his first international ODI debut against the not so lethal team of Afghanistan. He played a crucial role in the match with the bat and his team registered an easy win. It was the 2nd ODI of his career against Pakistan where he scored a spectacular half century. His innings of 56 run set the field and momentum for Australia, towards another easy win.<\/p>\n

Glenn Maxwell Career<\/h2>\n

2nd March, 2013 was the day when his dream of playing test cricket for Australia was realized. He was introduced to the test side of Australia under the cap number of 433. It was the second test match of the season against India, where he made his debut. Though history registered Australia losing that match,Glenn Maxwell proved to be a promising prospect to become an important part of the Australian test side.<\/p>\n

Maxwell joined the mighty\u00a0Indian Premiere League<\/strong>(IPL) in the year of 2012 as a member of The Delhi Dare Devils. Over the time his performance has made him a favorite among a lot of team owners and an aspiring target to bid for the next season. In the recent auctions of IPL Season 7, Maxwell was sold for a mighty sum of 1 million US dollars to the team of Kings XI Punjab.
