It the beginning of humanity and civilization could be attested to one moment – it would be the moment our ape ancestors decided to stand up and start walking. Even on an outward level, the act of walking is what ultimately distinguishes from our animal cousins. Certainly, not every task we perform on a daily basis requires us getting into a car and navigating through endless traffic. Let\u2019s try walking to the grocery store or to work too for that matter! Not only is walking addictive, it has many benefits too!<\/p>\n

Walking reduces your risk of heart disease and stroke if you do it regularly. It\u2019s a great form of cardio exercise, lowering levels of LDL (bad) cholesterol while increasing levels of HDL (good) cholesterol.<\/p>\n

A regular walking habit slashes the risk of type 2 diabetes by around 60 per cent, and you\u2019re 20 per cent less likely to develop cancer of the colon, breast or womb with an active hobby such as walking.<\/p>\n

Walking Helps You Lose Weight<\/strong><\/p>\n

You\u2019ll burn around 75 calories simply by walking at 2 mph for 30 minutes. Up your speed to 3 mph and it\u2019s 99 calories, while 4 mph is 150 calories. Work that short walk into your daily routine and you\u2019ll shed the pounds in no time.<\/p>\n

Walking Prevents Dementia<\/strong><\/p>\n

Older people who walk six miles or more per week are more likely to avoid brain shrinkage and preserve memory as the years pass. Since dementia affects one in 14 people over 65 and one in six over 80, we think that\u2019s a pretty great idea.<\/p>\n
