5 Australian digital companies to keep an eye on in 2018

It’s 2018 and the internet is everywhere. Everyone uses it for virtually all of their information gathering, money management and even shopping.  This means that getting a piece of the action is big business, and the industry is young enough that new players can make a big splash. Here are 5 Aussie organisations you should keep an eye on in the digital sector.

1. SEO Shark

SEO Shark is a digital marketing firm that was founded in 2006 by Lucas Bikowski. The company has grown from being a small operation in Sydney to the point where it currently operates nation-wide, with offices in Sydney and Melbourne, close to 50 staff members.

Marketics uses AI technology called Albert to run digital marketing campaigns. Albert was developed to run the digital marketing for RedBalloon, and following success in this was transformed into a business run by Marketics that takes on clients from outside BRG.

Redii.com was also initially a part of RedBalloon’s internal software infrastructure, but is now a provider of employee recognition and reward software. The software allows businesses to identify hard-working and high-performing employees, so that they can focus on retaining them – as well as helping to motivate employees.

Wrapped.com retails colourful products and gift ideas. It allows artists to sell their work without needing to create an entire product line or give up their right to recognition.

3. InStitchu

InStitchu is an online suit tailor founded in 2012 by James Wakefield and Robin McGowan. It allows men to custom design their suit online, input their measurements and have the suit shipped to them.

Following the success of their website, Wakefield and McGowan opened up several showrooms in major Australian cities, and have now expanded to New Zealand and North America, with showrooms in Auckland and New York.

With their recent expansion into the US InStitchu is likely to continue to grow, making this Australian start-up a major online business to keep an eye on in 2018.

4. Klika

Klika was started in 2005 by Ian McLellan, Boris Zaitsev and Scott Gladstone, and is an online retailer selling everything from wine and guitars to portable home dance poles. Products are mainly home and lifestyle related, with fitness equipment, home improvement kits and camping gear all featuring in the range.

Klika has steadily increased its product range and distribution area, to the point where it now ships Australia wide. Its convenience factor, along with the huge product range, means that it should continue to grow.

5. Canva

Graphic design giant Canva only launched in 2012, although it is already being used by a huge number of design agencies and large corporations. Co-founders Melanie Perkins, Cliff Obrecht and Cameron Adams launched the platform in response to students at the University of Western Australia finding it very difficult to learn and use existing graphic design programs like Photoshop.

Today Canva has offices all around the world. Already a very successful Australian digital company, it will be very exciting to keep an eye on them and see what comes next!
