SCERT & Education in Kerala
SCERT or The State Council of Educational Research and Training, Kerala is an education board of Kerala which prepares the curriculum for the schools affiliated to it. It is an autonomous body and is responsible for planning, implementation, and evaluation of all the academic programmes from pre-school to higher secondary levels. Due to proper education, Kerala is now among the most literate states in India and is the first state to achieve 100% primary education.
For private schools, English is the main language of instruction while Government schools offer both English and Malayalam. There are two regulatory bodies for the primary and higher secondary education in Kerala namely,
The Kerala State Education Board (KSEB) is the education board of Kerala which is responsible for conducting the class 10 exam or SSLC exam for all the affiliated schools and award the Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) to the students who clear it. The main subjects that are included in the high school classes are Physics, Chemistry, Maths, Biology, Social Sciences, First Language (English, Malayalam, etc.), Second Language, and Third Language (Hindi, GK). The exams are generally conducted in March and KSEB declares the results by May.
The Directorate of Higher Secondary Education or the DHSE was established in 1990 and came in full effect by 2000-2001. The Government of Kerala established the DHSE to promote all round development in Higher Secondary Education by segregating pre-degree courses from University education. The DHSE implement effective administrative systems, motivated and highly qualified staffs, institutional network and appropriate philosophies to make Higher secondary education more effective.
VHSE Kerala is short of Vocational Higher Secondary Education in Kerala which refers to the different vocational courses that can be taken in the state. The vocational education is aimed to prepare students to develop skills which will enhance their employability. The VHSE Kerala board conducts the VHSE exam and is also responsible for declaring the results.
At present, there are 35 restructured vocational courses in around 389 schools all across the state of Kerala. It should be noted that the age limit for any vocational course is 15 to 20 years and the students should pass SSLC kerala class 10 exam, CBSE class 10, ICSE class 10 or any other equivalent exam.
The SCERT textbooks for SSLC and DHSE grades are designed in a way to give complete insights to the students in an easy and simple way. The contents of both the SSLC textbooks and DHSE textbooks are easy to understand and can help students develop a deeper interest into the syllabus contents.
