Historical Significance of Janmashtami
As per Hindu Mythology, Lord Krishna is born in Mathura on the eighth day of Bhadrapada month at midnight. Right after his birth, his father Vasudeva Anakadundubhi took him across Yamuna River to save him from his Uncle Kansa and gave to foster parents in Gokul i.e. Nanda, Yashoda. It is believed that Kansa’s Sister Devaki’s Son will kill the cruel king. Thus Kansa Locked Devaki and Vasudeva in a prison and kills all their sons until Krishna was born.
Thus, on Janmashtami, Idols of Lord Krishna are Washed, Clothed, and Placed in a Cradle. Devotees will pray lord and keep a fast on this day.
