Here are some of the important CBSE decisions for students, teachers, schools, and parents

In the last few days, the Central Board of Secondary Education, CBSE, took some major decisions. This includes plans to promote students till class 8, promoting classes 9 and 11 using internal assessments, to hold board exams for only 29 major subjects, directing principals to aware students and teachers about Arogya Setu app, providing helpline number so as to promote safety measures, etc. Therefore, let’s have a look at different important updates by CBSE.

Arogya Setu app

In the midst of the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic and Pan-India lockdown, Central Board of Secondary Education, CBSE, has written to all of the school principals about the Arogya Setu. CBSE’s letter comes after HRD Ministry secretary wrote to government organisations and bodies like UGC, NIOS etc. about the Arogya Set app. Following this, CBSE has asked the school principals to inform teachers, students and staff members about the app.

Apart from the App, CBSE has also shared a protocol document for immunity boosting which has been developed by the Ministry of Ayush. And teachers are requested to explain the document to the students and parents via available means of communication.

The board had released the circular yesterday and asked school principals and teachers to inform students about the measures suggested by the board by the end of the day.

Take on promoting students

CBSE announced quite a few decisions on Wednesday including plans to directly promote students till class 8 to the next class, and use internal assessments to promote students of classes 9 and 11.

“Students should not worry. All authorities are cognizant of this situation and will work out a solution which is in the best interest of the students,” said CBSE board official and PRO Rama Sharma.

New CBSE board exam dates not announced yet

Despite the many decisions taken by CBSE on Wednesday, it did not announced any date for when the postponed CBSE board exams would continue. No schedule has been made as well for the CBSE board exams postponed due to Delhi violence and the Coronavirus pandemic.

CBSE students are thus asked to stay calm and not worry or panic about the current situation. The CBSE board official’s message informs students that all authorities are aware of the problems being faced and they would take a decision which is in the best interest of students.

One-time measures proposed by CBSE:

  • Students of classes 1 to 8 may be promoted to the higher grade without conducting exams. This decision will be taken after adequate consultation with NCERT.
  • Many schools have not yet conducted the annual examination for classes 9 and 11. These schools include all the Kendriya Vidyalayas, Naodaya Vidyalayas and some other government and private schools. These schools are advised to promote the students of classes 9 and 11 to the higher grade based on their performance in project work, periodic tests, term exams, etc. conducted so far.
  • When it comes to rescheduling the board examinations for classes 10 and 12, CBSE has not yet made the final decision of if and when the examinations will be conducted. The Board will be giving a minimum 10-day notice to all stakeholders before scheduling the examinations again.
  • As the Board was not able to conduct several board examinations for classes 10 and 12, they have decided to only conduct board examinations for main subjects that are required for promotion and admission into higher educational institutes.
  • For CBSE schools located outside India, it will be difficult to bring the answer booklets for class 10 and 12 students back to India for checking due to the current situation. So, the Board has decided not to hold any examinations for class 10 and 12 students studying in CBSE schools outside India.
  • Due to the coronavirus outbreak, the board has not been able to continue with the evaluation process of answer sheets as per schedule. Though the board has not reached a decision yet regarding the issue, they will notify all concerned parties 3 to 4 days before the evaluation process will be set to commence again.
  • To avoid being misled by rumours, all stakeholders are hereby informed to only trust the official announcements by the Board that is made on the Board’s website.
  • All schools are requested to ensure that this information is disseminated to all concerned students by their respective schools.

Amid the covid-19 pandemic, the Board has also requested all their stakeholders and concerned parties to be patient for further instructions. Though the situation might not seem in the favour of students currently studying in CBSE schools, the Board is trying to ensure that their academic future is secure.

29 main subjects

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will conduct class 10 and 12 examinations for only 29 main subjects which are crucial for promotion and admission to higher educational institutions, Union HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ”Nishank” announced on Wednesday.

“Have advised CBSE to conduct board exams only for 29 main subjects that are required for promotion and crucial for university admissions,” he said.

CBSE Affiliation seeking application

The Central Board of Secondary Education has released a notification regarding schools seeking CBSE affiliation announcing an extension of the application deadline. It has announced an extension of the application deadline for schools applying for a CBSE affiliation in view of the current Coronavirus lockdown.

Earlier, the last date for applications was March 31, 2020. But now, CBSE has extended the date to April 30.

As per the CBSE notification, the decision was taken after numerous representatives from such schools contacted the board asking for an extension of application submission date due to the problems being faced in services because of the Coronavirus lockdown.
