The 15-15 Rule

This rule pertains to waiting for 15 minutes after taking 15 grams of carbohydrates and re-test. If the sugar levels are still low, then repeat the process followed by a snack or a light meal in the next one hour. If the condition does not improve even after this, then the body has gone into a hypoglycaemic shock and you must be rushed to the hospital immediately or to a professional who can administer a glucagon injection which is known to have an immediate effect on the patient in such cases.

Onœ better, visiting a doctor to consult about sugar levels is a must. In case the incident has been occurring too frequently. especially for diabetics, a readjustment of medicine dosage might be needed. To be on the safe side, always carry some candy in your bag whenever you are heading outside. Always remember that being prepared and knowing what to do is a very important part of both emergency and diabetes management.
