How To Treat Your Brittle Hair Gently!
Hair breakage and hair loss may be different, but brittle hair is the weakening of hair, gradually leading to hair loss. Hair is like a delicate fabric and should be treated that way. However, hair is sometimes neglected and also damaged, leading to brittle hair that breaks off easily.
Causes Of Brittle Hair
The main cause of brittle hair is hair styling techniques that use chemical lotions and/or direct heat applications which include the process of straightening, colouring, etc. Chemical lotions penetrate the hair’s outermost layer in order to enter the middle layer and alter its structure. Thus, hair loses its shine, natural elasticity, and resilience. It becomes weak, dull, dry and brittle, breaking off easily.
Hair damage can also take places when we use hair dryers and other electronic hair styling equipment, frequently. The result of the damage caused by these treatments is basically the same – which can be dryness, rough texture, brittleness, split ends, hair breakage, and hair loss.
Treating Brittle Hair
Treating damaged hair gently, would be the best step. Start using a comb with wide teeth and smooth edges, instead of other brushes. Use these even for wet hair. Avoid chemical lotions and heat applications for some time.
When your hair dries excessively, take equal quantities of coconut oil, castor oil, and sesame seed or olive oil. Part your hair in sections and apply the heated oil in the partings first and then along the hair, right up to the ends. Wring out a towel in warm water to wrap it on your head for 10 minutes, Wring it out again and repeat the procedure for another 10 minutes.
Do’s And Don’ts
→ Avoid harsh massages and rubbing when you apply oil. Massage the scalp gently, using only your fingertips. You can make small circular movements on your scalp as this helps to stimulate blood circulation in and around the hair follicles.
→ Use a herbal shampoo to wash your hair. Use cool or lukewarm water and after shampooing, wrap a towel around your head and allow It to absorb the water from your hair. Comb out the tangles with a wide tooth comb, starting from the ends, working your way upwards. Also, allow your hair to dry naturally.
