The Miracle Of Music

The Miracle Of Music

One hot evening, an Uber driver took around one hour to track a customer. Consequently, he reacted ferociously due to the time he wasted trying to coordinate with the person. And though the customer tried to retort in the middle of his barbaric tone she stopped herself thinking it was of no use. After he was done with all the frustrated words, he switched on the FM radio and a typical song aired which exhibited some absurd, annoying sounds. He was not listening to it as he was still busy vociferating about someone else on his phone. The customer was at this point angry and felt heavy in the head. She was also almost red-faced after being shouted at by a stranger.

She rudely commanded him to switch the song oft and he agreed. Few moments later, she played Raga Jaijaiwanti on the sitar in her phone and listened to it with great focus in order to get rid of the annoyance caused by the driver. To her astonishment, he started interacting with her and asked which instrument was playing. She was still a bit vexed and answered disinterestedly. But he continued to interact with her by informing her that he appreciated the soothing effect of the music and that his wife sings very well and so on.

Music plays a vital role in uplifting the mood. Brain waves experience quite significant variations which makes one switch from a low stressful mood to positive feelings

This unexpected, unpredictable behaviour by an uncouth man left the customer in a huge dilemma about what his state of mind was. The journey was fifteen minutes long and it is normally unexpected even from a well-educated, sophisticated person to switch to normal behaviour after such a dreadful attitude in just a few minutes time. She was in a reckoning mode when he apologized for his bad behaviour.

This incident just reinforces evidence that music actually plays a vital role in uplifting the mood. Brain waves experience quite significant variations which makes one switch from a low stressful mood to positive feelings. The term resonance is an essential element for conceptualizing musical tunes as a mood changer. Resonance is a charismatic shine in a voice or any instrument’s sound, which produces the happy hormone called serotonin. It reverberates in the brain waves, balances hormones, and thus mollifies one when anxiously driven.

So, now one may wonder as to if there is some peculiarly miraculous music. Well, every tune is musical and is capable of treating our stress quotient. There Is also a definite time and emotions for every piece. All musical pieces can be innovative for a particular listener, but might not be effective, Sometimes, we enjoy the same piece every time we listen to it with the same overwhelming emotions and bliss. Sometimes, the piece is monotonous or too difficult and might not mollify our ears quite often.

The Effects Of Some Music

Monotonous Pieces

Sometimes, we want to listen to our favourite list repeatedly and enjoy every phrase of it at every moment. But this might be applicable only to a normal mood or when we are already relaxed. When we feel low, the same lovable piece might not even penetrate our minds because of the flow of thoughts.

Excessive Emotional Content

We tend to listen to depressing and sentimental songs when we are already exhausted or in a dull mood. In Bollywood nowadays, composers are perpetually composing over sensuous or erotic songs which may be soothing but drain one of energy and vitality due to their haunting music and lyrics. People, especially the males tend to get lost and are able to find the correct path because of the age-old belief that male chauvinism demands seriousness and serenity. Ultimately, the emotional carriage pushes them towards outer non acceptance and gossip. And thus, males generally connect sad songs with drinks.

Noisy And Fast Tracks

Though you may love fast and noisy music pieces like rock or pop, they are not recommended for stress treatment. According to researchers and therapists, while this is also music, the loud tones don’t really help and might even depress you. This music increases heart beats, which are already high paced.

The best medicine for depression is inner contemplation, which can evolve through soothing, peaceful or slow music. In such cases, there is a need for Indian music or ragas and Indian instruments. The violin does help but the heavenly tunes of the sitar and the sarod massages the brain neurons gently and makes one feel relaxed. Soft and slow rhythms balance the heart beats and cognitive neurons.
